History of Block Panchayat
Palluruthy Block Panchayat was established in 1956. It is located in the southwestern part of Ernakulam district. As per Government Order No. G.O.(Rt) 3346/10/LSGD dated 27/10/2010, the Vyttila Block was reorganized, and Kumbalam Grama Panchayat was included in the jurisdiction of Palluruthy Block Panchayat.
The Block Panchayat comprises the Gram Panchayats of Chellanam, Kumbalangi, and Kumbalam.
Kumbalam and Kumbalangi are areas highly suitable for inland fishing, while Chellanam, owing to its proximity to the Arabian Sea, is well suited for marine fishing activities.
Although the region is enriched with numerous backwaters and water bodies, it continues to experience scarcity of drinking water.
