Operation Toofan
"Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt" is a new initiative launched by the Kerala Police to eradicate the drug mafia. The project is being implemented jointly with the cooperation of the Education, Health, and Excise departments. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan inaugurated the state-level launch of the project at a ceremony held at Cotton Hill School in Thiruvananthapuram on June 2, 2026.
Through this initiative, the Kerala Police aims to take stringent legal action against drug mafias and build a strong public defense with the participation of the community. The project has been conceived in a manner suited to the digital age to counter the rapid spread of synthetic drugs. Beyond issuing a stern warning to drug mafias, the mission also seeks to ensure a sense of complete security for the general public.
Joint strategies will be planned in consultation with police chiefs from other South Indian states to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks. An extensive digital surveillance system, featuring mobile apps and WhatsApp chatbots, will be established to enable the anonymous sharing of information regarding drug trafficking. The police will ensure the protection of those who provide confidential information.
